Revisiting mixed cassette tapes from long ago - most received as gifts.
Magnetic audio recording tape is made out of iron oxide. MICR laser toner decals are as well and can be fused to glass. Noticing this commonality of materials sparked the idea to fuse cassette tape between pieces of glass. The ingredients were gleaned from mixed cassettes received as gifts in the 1980's. Revisiting these artifacts aroused thoughts about the passage of time, memory, the emotional resonance of music, obsolete technology and disappearing activities (such as crafting and writing by hand). Including a glass replica of the tape case is meant to add these elements to each piece.
